Such is the the joie de vivre of the Maltese & Gozitans you can be sure there's always something happening in Victoria most weeks or at any rate within easy reach. You may prefer to arrive and be swept along by events, drop out and chill for a few weeks, enjoying the old world charm. But for those who wish to combine their visit with a special event, be it a concert, exhibition or festa, here's a guide to what's on over the next few months. Do check in advance with the organisation concerned as dates may change or cancellations occur.

Christmas!
Being an intensely catholic country, you might expect Christmas to reflect its religious origins - and you would be right; it's a really special and moving time without descending into schlock. So there's the nativity scenes , display of cribs, carol services all combined into a festival atmosphere. Not to be missed!

Landrover Malta Marathon
This is the biggest athletic event on the island, attracting many international participants. Some run a full marathon, others a half marathon. The course follows some stunning architectural sites, starting from the old historic capital of Mdina. More importantly it's all down hill from there, past Verdala Palace once occupied by the Grand Master of the Knights, ultimately finishing in Sliema. This will be my first  marathon so check out my blog as the training starts in earnest in January!

Festivals
One of the most important events held throughout most of the year, in times past to celebrate a Patron Saint and the 5 days before Lent, but now also an excuse for a good party - and everyone's welcome.
